Tianwei Liu is a Singaporean software engineer and entrepreneur, best known as the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of StraitsX, a digital asset infrastructure company. He is also a co-founder of the payment gateway Xfers and serves as the Group Deputy CEO at FAZZ Financial Group. [1] [2]
Tianwei Liu studied Computer and Electronic Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS), where he graduated with honors in 2010. During his studies, he participated in the NUS Overseas Colleges program in Silicon Valley in 2009, focusing on Management Sciences and Engineering. He later completed coursework in Technology Entrepreneurship at Stanford University through the Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD) between 2009 and 2010. In 2015, Liu also took part in Y Combinator as a co-founder of Xfers, a startup incubated through the accelerator program. [3] [2] [6]
Tianwei Liu is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of StraitsX, a Singapore-based stablecoin infrastructure platform established in 2020. The company operates as a Major Payment Institution licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and provides regulated digital payment solutions centered around stablecoins.
He also serves as Group Deputy CEO of FAZZ Financial Group, a financial technology firm offering digital banking and payment services to businesses across Southeast Asia.
In 2015, Liu co-founded Xfers, a payments platform designed to facilitate digital financial services in Singapore and Indonesia. Prior to his entrepreneurial ventures, Liu held software engineering roles at Amazon Lab126, where he contributed to big data infrastructure projects for Kindle FireOS, and at WIMM Labs (acquired by Google), where he worked on Android-based development and testing systems.
Earlier in his career, he gained experience as a Quality Assurance Engineer at Plastic Logic and as a Web Application Developer at 3S-Comaea Pte Ltd, where he developed and maintained web-based systems and automation tools. [3] [4] [6] [5]

In July 2025, Tianwei Liu appeared on On Call with Insignia in an episode titled “On Call with Tianwei Liu and Hendra Kwik of StraitsX, a CNBC World’s Top Fintech Company.” The discussion explored the evolution of StraitsX following its integration with Payfazz’s financial network in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic. Liu and Kwik reflected on the company’s growth since combining StraitsX’s compliant stablecoin infrastructure with Payfazz’s regional presence.
