Education

Sergio Demian Lerner studied computer science at ORT Argentina, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree between 1988 and 1994. In 1994, he completed a specialization in Parallel Computing at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. He subsequently attended the University of Buenos Aires, obtaining a master's degree in Computer Science from 1995 to 2000. ^[3]

Sergio Demian Lerner is a computer scientist, cryptographer, and blockchain researcher whose career has focused on information security, distributed systems, and cryptocurrency technologies. He began his professional work in the 1990s, leading information security projects for Argentina's tax authority and later serving as an assistant lecturer in cryptography at the University of Buenos Aires.

Between 1998 and 2015, Lerner held technical and leadership positions in software development and cybersecurity, including roles at ATI Medical, ATI – Advanced Medical Technologies, and Certimix. He also worked as a security consultant and researcher for organizations such as Core Security Technologies, conducting work related to cryptography and information security.

Following the emergence of blockchain technology, Lerner became involved in cryptocurrency research and development. He led the NimbleCoin project (2014–2015), served as a security auditor for the Bitcoin Foundation, and acted as Chief Scientist at Doosra Inc. In 2015, he co-founded RSK Labs, where he led the design of the RSK platform, a Bitcoin sidechain intended to support smart contracts compatible with Web3 applications.

Since 2014, Lerner has served as a technical advisor to CoinFabrik and worked as a security auditor for Coinspect, reviewing cryptocurrency-related software, protocols, and infrastructure. He also advised WayniLoans on cybersecurity and risk management strategies between 2015 and 2023. From 2020 to 2023, he served as Chief Scientist at RootstockLabs (formerly associated with IOV Labs), overseeing research into blockchain scalability, privacy, decentralization, and security.
