Vadim Zacodil is a cryptocurrency developer and commentator formerly associated with NEAR Protocol. Zacodil describes himself as a former member of NEAR’s core team and says he is building Out Layer; other reports have described him as a former NEAR developer.[1][2][3]
Zacodil has posted about NEAR, including marking the anniversary of the network’s mainnet launch on October 13, 2020. He also reported that Confidential NEAR Intents had surpassed $3 billion in cumulative volume.[1]
Commenting on an exploit involving Gnosis Pay’s delay module, Zacodil said the system routes users’ self-custody through a shared layer that queues outgoing transactions from multiple Safe wallets. He argued that a bug or exploit in that layer could put malicious withdrawals into thousands of users’ queues at once, even if the users’ individual keys remained in place. In his assessment, users in the incident were protected less by their individual Safe accounts than by Gnosis’s ability to pause infrastructure and commit treasury funds to cover losses.[2]
Zacodil compared Zcash’s Orchard counterfeiting vulnerability to Bitcoin’s 2010 inflation bug, in which 184 billion counterfeit bitcoins were created before the problem was detected and the blockchain rolled back. The comparison contrasted Bitcoin’s publicly visible ledger, which enabled detection, with Zcash’s use of zero-knowledge proofs to conceal transaction amounts.[3]
