Karl Mohan
Karl Mohan is a Singapore-based financial services executive.[1] Before moving into cryptocurrency he built a career in traditional banking and payments, including more than four years at the National Australia Bank and a period at the German payments company Wirecard.[1]
Education
He pursued graduate management education at Monash University, earning a Master of Business Administration in entrepreneurship and innovation between 2009 and 2011.[2][3] In 2012 he completed a further Master of Business Administration through the European Summer School for Advanced Management at Aarhus University.[2] He also holds the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification from ISACA, an information-security governance credential.[2]
Career
Mohan spent more than four years at the National Australia Bank (NAB), based in Melbourne.[1] From April 2015 to April 2018 he served as Head of Transaction Banking, e-Commerce and Advisory, leading NAB's e-commerce transactional banking function with a mandate to drive revenue growth across the Institutional, Corporate and Business Banking segments.[2] The role centred on building NAB's wholesale merchant acquiring capability, enabling domestic e-commerce merchants to expand internationally and helping overseas merchants establish local Australian operations.[2]
He was then promoted to Head of Product, Partnerships and Growth from April 2018, a position he held until leaving NAB in mid-2019.[2][1]
From July 2019 to September 2020, Mohan was General Manager for Australia and New Zealand at Wirecard, the German financial-services and payments company, working from Melbourne.[2] In that position he was responsible for growing the company's business across the two markets.[5] While at Wirecard he was the leading project member of the inaugural Asia Pacific Open Banking report, which was subsequently tabled to the finance ministers of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.[5]
Between March 2021 and February 2025, Mohan worked independently as a self-employed payments consultant, describing the work as projects in payments, crypto and fintech for major global companies.[2] From October 2019 to February 2025 he sat on the advisory board of RedGrid, a Melbourne company building what it calls the Internet of Energy — a distributed network intended to turn energy devices into a collectively managed, cleaner and more efficient grid.[2]
Mohan joined Crypto.com in August 2021, initially as General Manager for Asia Pacific, based in Melbourne.[3][2] His remit widened over time to cover the Middle East and Africa, and he added the role of Global Head of Banking Partnerships, becoming General Manager for APAC and MEA.[3][2] In January 2025 he was appointed Executive Vice President for Financial Services and General Manager International, relocating to Singapore, a position he held until August 2026.[2][4]
Mohan's exit from Crypto.com was reported on 30 June 2026 by Finance Magnates, which noted that he had left after almost five years.[1]
Karl Mohan has been self-employed in the real-world asset (RWA) and tokenization sector in the APAC region since August 2026. His work focuses on examining the potential economic impact of RWA tokenization and its implications for the financial sector. [2]
