Colin Hong

Colin Hong is an angel investor and former quantitative researcher based in New York City. Since June 2024 he has worked as a self-employed angel investor, following a roughly decade-long career in trading, market making, and quantitative research.[1] [2]​

Early Life and Education

Hong graduated from the Punahou School in Hawaii in 2011, where he was a National Merit finalist and a member of the National Honors Society.[3] As a high school athlete he competed at the Hawaii State track and field championship, finishing fifth as a junior and fourth as a senior.[3]​

Hong earned a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering and Management Science (2011–2015)..[1]

During his undergraduate years he took part in Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) projects, conducting data analysis for Professor Gruber and Jason Abaluck.[2] He was a co-founder of Revivo Energy Chews and served as treasurer for the Alpha Theta chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity.[2]​[1] From August 2013 to May 2014 he worked as a Peer Advisor at the MIT Martin Trust Center for Entrepreneurship.[1]​

Career

Hong began his finance career at Morgan Stanley, the New York–headquartered financial services firm, where he held two roles. He first worked as a Summer Trading Analyst in New York City from June to August 2014, and later held a full-time position in Automated Market Making from July 2015 to May 2019.[1] Automated market making is the practice of using computer programs to continuously quote buy and sell prices in securities, providing liquidity to markets through algorithmic trading.

From June 2019 to July 2022 he was a Quantitative Research Analyst at Millennium Management, a global, diversified alternative investment firm founded in 1989 and headquartered in New York. Millennium operates in nine countries with a workforce distributed across dozens of countries.[1]

In July 2022 he moved into venture investing as a Partner at Standard, a venture capital and private equity firm founded in 2019 and headquartered in San Francisco with an office in New York. He held the partner role, in general management, until June 2024.[1]​

Since June 2024, Hong has worked as a self-employed angel investor based in New York, listing the role at a founder level.[1]
