Brett Hornung is a Web3 and strategy professional with a background in consulting, blockchain strategy, and commercial development across Asia-Pacific markets. He is currently Chief Commercial Officer at Anseta, having previously served as Head of Web3 Solutions at BCW Group and Strategy Senior Manager and Head of APAC Web3 at Accenture. [6]
Hornung graduated from Marquette University with a BA in International Relations, Affairs & Political Science, Asian Studies, and Economics in 2016. He also earned a Specialized Master’s in Finance from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business in 2017. [2]
Hornung began his career as a Corporate Communications Intern at Knorr-Bremse CVS China, where he supported internal and external communications, translated Mandarin-language materials, researched market prices, and assisted with sourcing analysis. He later attended Marquette University, where he was an NCAA Division I men's lacrosse student-athlete while completing his studies. In 2017, Hornung joined Accenture as a Strategy Analyst in Hong Kong, progressing to Consultant and then Manager as he worked on strategy engagements and developed expertise in blockchain and Web3. His responsibilities included supporting enterprises across growth markets with the exploration and adoption of blockchain and distributed data technologies, covering areas from strategy and design through implementation. Hornung became Strategy Senior Manager and Head of APAC Web3 at Accenture in 2024, leading Web3 strategy across the region and supporting client relationships and adoption initiatives. He joined BCW Group as Head of Web3 Solutions in 2025, before becoming Chief Commercial Officer at Anseta in January 2026. [1]
In a June 2023 interview on the Now&Next podcast, Hornung discussed Web3’s potential to give users greater ownership and interoperability over digital assets, comparing digital property rights with ownership in the physical world. He examined potential applications in gaming, loyalty programs, and consumer engagement, while noting that portability could disrupt existing business models and that projects should prioritize product-market fit, legitimacy, and community building over token-driven speculation. Hornung also discussed improvements to Web3 onboarding, including simpler wallet solutions and account abstraction, arguing that better user experiences are necessary for broader adoption. He described Web3 as a challenge to centralized control that could expand digital ownership and identity, and discussed the role of regulation in supporting innovation while protecting users, citing Hong Kong as an example of a jurisdiction taking a more supportive approach. [4]
At a December 2023 panel at the WOW Summit, Hornung joined Ioana Surpateanu (CryptoUK), Joy John (Oracle/EMEA), and Cindy Amar (Glass Ventures) to discuss the role of blockchain in enterprise and emerging business models. The panel examined how corporate blockchain had expanded beyond permissioned networks into B2B, B2C, and B2B2C applications, including supply chains, customer engagement, cross-border payments, and new revenue streams, while companies continued to balance innovation with regulatory and operational risks. The speakers also discussed blockchain’s impact on finance, loyalty, and data sharing, noting that financial applications often require permissioned structures because of regulatory considerations and that enterprise adoption depends on aligning blockchain projects with organizational needs and governance. Hornung and the other panelists addressed the tension between crypto hype and practical value, arguing that sustainable adoption would depend on user understanding, regulation, and real-world applications rather than speculation alone.
